6-8pst
Posh Pieces Gallery
3824 Telegraph Avenue
Oakland, CA

The Art of Justice is a fundraising event for Oakland/East Bay high schools and McCullum Youth Court (MYC). The goal of the program is to offer teenage artists the opportunity to display their talents and to promote philanthropy among youth. Students will compete within their high school for the opportunity to have their artwork put up for the silent auction.

All proceeds will go to McCullum Youth Court and the school that the artist attends. Also at the end of the auction, three scholarships of $500 each will be awarded: one for the crowd favorite, one for the piece that raises the most money, and one for the piece that best represents "The Art of Justice".

Also featured are local Oakland artists Milton Bowens and Tracy Burnham.

For additional information contact Darren Ashley White, Director of Development & Public Relations, at 510-832-5858 ext. 307 or email at: darren@youthcourt.org

DRIFTWOOD SALON NEWEST ART OPENING
“Lost And Found”

Driftwood Salon is pleased to present our first annual “Lost And Found” exhibit, a group show, opening Thursday, May 6th, from 5PM to 10PM.

In an effort to raise awareness of our quickly deteriorating environment, and the beauty of recycling, we are exhibiting fine works all made from ‘found’ objects.

Lost, discarded, or recycled, and masterfully transformed into objets d’art.

Lost And Found aims to remind the viewer that any and every thing can be born again.

Featuring works by Liz Mamorsky, Rafael Bensuaski Vieira, Allison Adams, Larry Berger, Cynthia Tom, Daniel Barron, Martin Zuniga, Tracy Burnham, Tyer Bergholz and many more.

Gallery will be open Wed-Sun 12:00PM-6:00PM

lectriccollective.blogspot.com
The show/reading is to be held on Friday, May 14 at Krowswork Gallery in Oakland (http://www.krowswork.com/). The owner, Jasmine Moorhead, has generously offered that we use her screening room, which features seating for 50 on beautiful antique church pews, free wall space for your art, and some floor space for small installations. Her only stipulation is that, because she did not select the works herself, if you decide to list this show on your CV or resume, please mention it as a 'Lectric Collective event as opposed to a Krowswork event.

And, without further ado, the information you've all been patiently awaiting: the poets! We're very excited to say that you will be working from poems by (and showing your art alongside readings from) the very talented poets Lisa Robertson, Jane Gregory, and Jesús Castillo.

Lisa Robertson is a Canadian poet who is currently living in Oakland and teaching at CCA in San Francisco. She has authored six books of poetry (each of which we have selected an exemplary poem or excerpt from) and two chapbooks. Many of her poems are in response to visual art, and she herself makes sound and video based work, making her a wonderful example of the relationship between language arts and other arts.

Jane Gregory is a PhD candidate at UC Berkeley. She graduated from Vassar College in 2004 and received her MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop last spring. Her chapbook was put out by Cannibal Books in 2007. We are including sections of her newest chapbook, Some Books (published by The Song Cave) as an attachment, but feel free to look to poems at these links as well: http://www.stmarys-ca.edu/external/Mary/winter2010/content/poetry/JG.html

Jesús Castillo is a poet who splits his time between Oakland and San Diego. He is the founder and editor of Vertebrae Journal (http://vertebraejournal.wordpress.com/), a new publication which will include writing and art, which promises to be pretty tremendous. A selection of his poems are attached.
